I made a video walkthrough, showing the basic path through the game:

NSF files:

I've added the NSF files to the Snailiad soundtrack page. Originally, I only uploaded MP3s, because the NSF for Moon Snail didn't export correctly. I figured out the problem, though (stray values in the instrument column), and updated the soundtrack page with the NSFs :-)

If you don't know what NSFs are, it's the NES sound format. You can learn about them and download a player for them at zophar.net! The Snailiad soundtrack was made with Famitracker, a program which can create NSF files.

Snailiad is and Awesome game, but I have a question... why the name?

It's a combination of Snail and the Iliad. Well, it doesn't have much to do with the Iliad, but I wanted a name like "The Legend of the Moon Snail", except shorter and more unique. So, the "legend" part made me think of the Iliad and the Odyssey, my favorite epics, and... well, what can I say? I'm terrible at naming stuff ;-)

How do you get slug mode and will you make a sequel.

After you've unlocked slug mode (get 100% items or win boss rush), it should appear under new game, as a separate difficulty level (under Easy and Normal).

I'd like to make a sequel, but I'm not sure what I'll be working on next! I might make something else, then come back and make a sequel later :-)

um how do you play in slug mode and when they said go to the shrine of isis when i got every item nothing happened when i got there

I LOVE THIS GAME! I've gotten all the medals but the one thing I can't figure out is the secret on the main menu.... Any hints?

Impressive collection! I liked the soundtrack a lot. And thanks for posting MP3s in addition to NSFs. I think the concept of alternative formats like NSFs confuse the heck out of most people, so MP3s will ensure your work is heard!

I've been playing this off and on for a while now. I'm onto the final boss in slug mode... It's intense! I really enjoy the soundtrack to this thing... It reminds me of Earthbound. A few of the character baddies remind me of Earthbound as well... Like those snakes! You did a great job with this thing. I've had a lot of fun playing it!

For some reason, I keep thinking it's called Snailand instead of Snailiad for some reason. When you think about it, Snailand makes more sense because the Iliad had nothing to do with a snail trying to save his brethren from another, more evil snail. Maybe your next game should be called Snailand instead, but that's just my opinion.

Does the time you spend paused count as the time spent when you try to earn the medal to beat the game in 30 mins? Because I've tried, and I cannot get it. I spend a lot of time paused, in my opinion.

No, the clock won't advance while it's paused. (Paused = while it says "game paused", at the map/subscreen, and menu. Intro and ending don't count, either.)

I think Snailiad is a great name!

I absolutely love the music by the way. It's as good as the moon theme from Duck Tales. Your Starwish music is great too. I actually think Snailiad is a better game than Starwish.
